About

THE SKIPPER

William Croxford grew up on his family farm near Milton Keynes and started sailing at the age of ten at Willen Lake. Starting on Dinghies he eventually found yachts when traveling in Australia and New Zealand at the age on 18. Whilst traveling he spent time as crew on yachts in the Whitsundays, great Barrier Reef and Bay of Islands. He was lucky enough to get to spend sometime onboard an Americas Cup yacht in Auckland where he found his passion for sailing fast.

Ever since watching Dame Ellen MacArthur come second in the Vendée Globe in 2001 and reading about Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, Will has wanted to complete a solo non stop sail around the world.

With the berth of the Global Solo Challenge and the difficulties Covid has brought to the world over the past few years Will has decided now is the time to complete this dream.

Having a passion for renewable energy and the environment Will has decided to complete his Solo Non Stop sail as the first person to do so without carrying or using any fossil fuels throughout the voyage and making his boat carbon neutral or carbon negative.

Sustainability

Will aims to become the first person to sail around the world non stop solo without carrying or using any fossil fuels for the voyage. He also is working towards making the boat carbon neutral or carbon negative.

Every item on the boat will be run from electricity that has been gathered from either solar panels or hydrogenation technology attached to the boat.

Although people have completed solo navigations with electric engines they have always carried back up generators and gas to cook. Will plans to go one step further and remove all foil fuels and any temptation to use them.

He will be using products on the boat which are able to be recycled and repurposed, and products that don’t harm the environment.
